Against the Grain

It has been proven time and again a whole food plant based diet is optimal for health. We ARE carnivores though right?? of course, however we Americans have completely lost touch with a little thing called moderation. Think back on the good old caveman days, they didn't have a McDonald's to ride their pachyderm through and order a saber tooth McRib ~ 3+ times a day. They ate animal protein when they were successful in the hunt. More recent civilized years a typical animal protein portion was 4oz a day. However here in America we eat bacon and eggs for breakfast, 1/4lb burger for lunch and a 32oz steak for dinner. This much meat is not only bad for our systems on a multitude of levels but a bit gluttonous don't you think?...

When I started cutting back on my meat consumption I am not gonna lie, it was ROUGH! Withdrawals, unsatisfied after every meal, always looking for something else, nothing seemed to cut the hunger. Then it got easier and I started feeling really good. Like REALLY good. I remember after my daughter Olive was born I went full vegan and no matter the lack of sleep I got I was amazed with the amount of pure energy I had!

There will always be someone that has an opinion about how you raise your baby. What choices you make from which pediatrician you choose (if at all), how long you breast feed (if you do) to where you buy their clothes and how you part their hair. Ridiculous, I know. However like raising your child the way you want, what you feed them is only your business as well. Don't be discouraged by the 'norm', if you feel a vegan diet is the best for your child ~ then it is.

I want to share my successful baby recipes with you. As a Chef my greatest joy is cooking but the best satisfaction comes from seeing my daughter eat real fruits and vegetables. It makes me feel like I am doing a good job no matter the days events, especially when she asks for more. Enough talking, lets get feeding..

  1. Thank you so much for your insights in raising a kid the vegan way, though i don't have kids yet i'm already interested, and i won't lie in many ways uncertain, if the vegan lifestyle is the right choice for my offspring - but if vegan is healthy for me why shouldn't it be the right way for my children too, right?

    Kepp it up!

    1. It is really hard to say what you would do for your kids until they are here but you are right, if it's good for you it is for them!
